How to care for your jewellery

SILVER & BRASS JEWELLERY

Mwezi Blu jewellery is made to last. However if you want your jewellery looking it's bests here are some tips:

Remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, exercise, and other practical activities to minimise the exposure to chemicals and moisture, as well as to ensure it does not get accidentally damaged

Remove your jewellery before going to bed

Apply hair and beauty products before putting on your jewellery

Store your jewellery in an air tight container (zip lock bag), cotton or felt pouches, which will help to absorb excess moisture

AFRICAN TRADE BEADS

Our African Trade beads are collected from across the African continent, each bead being completely unique. African Trade beds are made of glass, therefore may be fragile. Considering the history and the journey these beads have travelled, some may have pre-existing small chips and can be more delicate.

To make sure your beads stay perfect, please follow below steps:

Remove your jewellery before any physical or practical activity to avoid accidental damage

Remove your jewellery before bed

Store your jewellery in individuals jewellery pouches

HOW TO CLEAN BRASS & SILVER

It is normal for Brass & Sterling Silver to tarnish over time, especially with exposure to moisture and chemicals.

To remove mild tarnish from brass follow the steps below:

Squeeze some fresh lemon juice into a bowl
To clean smaller brass pieces use cotton swabs or a small cloth soaked in lemon juice
Clean your jewellery for 2-5minutes or until you see brass getting back its shine.

Bigger and solid brass pieces can be soaked in lemon juice for five minutes. Wiped dry with a cloth.

To avoid mild tarnish on Sterling Silver pieces the general advice above should be enough, however to remove strong tarnish from your pieces, follow the steps bellow:

Mix a paste of three parts baking soda to one part water. Wet the silver and apply the cleaner with a soft brush or lint-free cloth
Work the paste into the crevices until the mixture starts turning grey. Rinse and buff dry.

Alternatively you can use Brasso metal polish (available at big supermarkets, DIY shops, and online) and a cloth to clean your Brass and Silver jewellery. Follow the instructions provided by Brasso
